Meet Chanel

Chanel is excited to share some of her story through our In-Depth Profiles, a NWAE project that empowers teens to speak directly to potential adoptive families. Learn more about In-Depth Profiles.

Never without: Her sketchbook
Future dreams to become: An animator
Values: Understanding and acceptance
Wants: To be adopted

Give Chanel a pencil and a sketchbook and she will be at her happiest. She’s an artist, through and through, and is a thorough and talented one at that. When she grows up, Chanel would like to be an animator, specializing in anime art, though her drawing style is not limited to anime. She regularly challenges herself to expand her artistic domains, which is one of the things she shows in her self-directed In-Depth Profile video:

Chanel directed an In-Depth Profile video where she could show her art and also speak right to the kind of accepting and understanding adoptive family she's wanting to find.

She’s super creative and can draw in a variety of styles, often adding multiple pages of drawings to her notebook in a single day. If Chanel is well stocked with pencils and blank pages and her sketchbook (she has one, or two, or 17, but you can never have too many), she’s all set.

Here's a few recent sketches that Chanel wanted to share!

Her creativity isn’t limited to just her artwork, though. Chanel is a beautiful writer as well. She has a strong relationship to words and can channel her thoughts into beautiful poetry and prose.

A very social and engaging kid, Chanel is really well-loved by her friends and community. She’s very talkative, super outgoing, and loves to chat about any and everything, particularly music and comedy! She’s a fan of pop and rap and basically anything that’s on the radio. Chanel is quick to quote YouTube star and director Bo Burnham, relishing in her favorite jokes and putting her own spin on them. Chanel is a natural comedian and can keep a whole room laughing.

Currently in her sophomore year, Chanel enjoys being in school, though she’s first to admit that it’s mostly for the social aspect of high school. Chanel does well in the classes she likes, like video production, and is trying her best at the tougher stuff, like math. An adoptive family who can support Chanel as she navigates her high school years will be a great fit for her.

Chanel has close relationships with a few biological family members, including her sister. An adoptive family who will support these bonds will be essential.

An adoptive family who is big on positive reinforcement and recognition of Chanel’s successes will be a great fit. Chanel will do well with any family configuration – two moms, two dads, a single mom, two parents! Chanel has stated that she would like an adoptive family who really understands teens. It's also important to her to have a family that is LGBTQ+ accepting.

She would do well as the only child in the home, or with one younger sibling. It’s important to note that Chanel is a big animal person and has stated that she would like a pet bunny to keep in her room, and a dog or two, though she’s not a big fan of the drooling type.

She’s a great kid who we are excited to find the right adoptive family for. If you can see Chanel in yours, reach out to us.

Beyond the Profile: When we first met up with Chanel to discuss creating an In-Depth Profile, she was bursting with ideas right off the bat. She even had a vision of opening the Profile by revealing herself wrapped in a rainbow Pride flag. Needless to say, spending time with Chanel is invigorating. Chanel is very solidly herself and is so comfortable with who she is. Her friendships, art, and sense of humor are all key aspects of Chanel’s life and it’s admirable how important those things are to her. She views art as a coping skill, a way to relax and reflect, and I was blown away with how many different journals she has full of poetry and her beautiful drawings. Chanel has a really good head on her shoulders and is able to describe what she wants in an adoptive family in a clear way. She really just wants a family to love and support her as the fun-loving, social teenager she is. And Chanel really deserves to find that family.
