Looking for: A permanent family

We’re very excited to introduce you to Mickey, an absolutely wonderful kid. Mickey is the type of person that everyone just gravitates toward. He has a “fun big brother” type of personality and engages well with children of all ages, making them feel included and uplifted. At the park or while engaging in an activity like jumping on the trampoline, it’s clear that kids of all ages just adore being around Mickey.

If you want to hear about what goes into a great day of fishing in Mickey's own words, then definitely check out this video!

While Mickey often has a calm and reassuring demeanor, he still loves to be active in the outdoors. He certainly enjoys hiking and camping, but he especially loves fishing. Whether it’s on a lake or a river, he says he enjoys the patience of it, and how it allows him to connect with others while out on a trip. In fact, spending quality time with friends or family members is one of the most important things to Mickey, and he loves doing this in many ways. If there’s a conversation to be had over a meal, a strategic move to play out in a board game, or even a book club to start in the home or neighborhood – Mickey’s your guy.

If you ask Mickey about team sports, it’s immediately clear that hockey and soccer are his favorite. He’s a major fan and his bedroom décor shows that off. Mickey also enjoys playing video games when he has indoor time.

His social worker adds that he just cannot say enough about this wonderful teen. Mickey has such a bright personality and a wonderful, quirky sense of humor that is reserved for people who he really feels comfortable around. Mickey has a tight-knit group of close friends and a positive outlook on life. He really takes things in stride and is easy-going and patient with the ups and downs in life.

Currently in his freshman year of high school, Mickey’s favorite class is a challenging one – world history! The subject has been really interesting to him. He could tell you all about why the Renaissance is important to everything we experience in modern life. He’s also a big believer in a history teacher’s favorite adage that, ‘those who cannot learn from history are bound to repeat it.’

There are numerous people in Mickey’s life that he would like to maintain contact with – most importantly, his biological siblings. Mickey lights up anytime he gets to spend time with his family. It is essential that Mickey’s future adoptive family maintains these bonds. Due to his close relationships, Mickey’s social worker would like to hear from families local to Washington State.

Mickey wants to be adopted and has a good understanding of what that will entail for him. He’s super open to all family types and would absolutely do well with other kids. Mickey’s long-term goal right now is to be in the military. He would really appreciate an adoptive family who will support that dream.

If you can see Mickey in your family, please place an inquiry on his profile! We’re excited to find him the adoptive family he deserves.

Beyond the Profile: A lot of what came to the picture in Mickey’s In-Depth Profile started during a walking brainstorm about whether he wanted to address potential adoptive families directly, how, and what he’d want to share. It was quickly clear that he had many interests, one of which was just having a good conversation. We led with that, and pretty soon Mickey was sharing both about his long term family hopes, as well as his detailed love for fishing. At every step of working with Mickey, he had a warm, delightful presence. He is such a sincere young person, deeply committed to his role as an older brother, to being a consistent friend to others, and to connecting with caring adults. It was such a joy to be able to include his fishing first-hand, too, so potential adoptive families can see Mickey in one of his favorite elements. The lasting steadiness of a permanent family is something that Mickey could thrive in, and I’m so glad that he got a chance to share about that directly. I deeply hope it inspires those compatible families out there to reach out.
