Meet Robert "RJ" and Dean

Meet Robert “RJ” and Dean, two active, outdoorsy brothers who love staying busy! From camping to fishing to riding bikes, these brothers are always down to have a good time and try out something new.

RJ is an energetic, funny, and outgoing child who loves making people smile. He is deeply observant, with a strong memory for past events and interactions. RJ thrives on adult attention and is happiest when he feels connected and valued. RJ is quick with a compliment, and loves getting one in return.

RJ is a creative kid, and loves pretending to be Spiderman and acting out superhero adventures where he saves the day. A fan of Spiderman and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, RJ also enjoys art, music, dancing, puzzles, and sensory activities (playdough, sand, slime, etc.). He loves reading, cooking, and outdoor adventures like camping, fishing, and biking. RJ is very inquisitive and will ask thought-provoking questions about how something works, or who may live in a building he passes by.

Dean is a sweet, giggly kid who loves to help out. He’s an observer, carefully watching what others do and then trying to do it himself. Calm and easygoing by nature, Dean also has a playful, silly side and loves to play peek-a-boo. Dean enjoys the outdoors, playing in sand, and listening to music. He loves stuffed animals, especially his favorite green dinosaur.

RJ is working hard on his communication skills. He often repeats words or phrases, and does well when caregivers can model the type of language they would like him to use. He thrives with adults who can provide extra encouragement, guidance, and understanding.

Dean receives some supports that help keep him moving and active! Families willing to commit to his current and future needs are in his best interest.

RJ and Dean share a deep connection and comfort each other through new experiences. RJ clearly enjoys being a big brother and likes to guide and teach Dean new things, as well as help him with navigating new experiences and activities.

Both RJ and Dean have some contact with extended family. They will benefit from ongoing support to process their feelings and navigate these relationships in a healthy way.

For RJ, gentle prompts and time help him regulate and find a sense of calm when he’s feeling big emotions. Low-stimulation environments and stability help him. RJ is a youth who feels deeply accomplished when recognized for his positive behaviors. RJ is highly sensitive to sounds and can detect noises that others might not notice.

With caregiver attention and patience, Dean has made great strides. Sometimes Dean will have age-expected dysregulation such as crying or throwing himself down when upset, but with consistency and structure, he is able to be redirected quickly and smoothly.

The ideal family for RJ and Dean is a family who can fully commit to both brothers together, and who can provide a calm, loving, and structured environment. Both boys benefit from a very calm and lower-stimulation environment.

Families of any racial or cultural background would be a good fit for RJ and Dean. RJ and Dean's team are looking forward to finding a family that will be comfortable talking about the boys' background and encouraging them to explore that side of themselves. Their maternal side is proudly multi-racial and it’s important to them that the children know their Pacific Islander heritage as they grow and develop.
