Meet Vashanti

Vashanti is excited to share some of her story through our In-Depth Profiles, a NWAE project that empowers teens to speak directly to potential adoptive families. Learn more about In-Depth Profiles.

Loves: To dance
It's no secret that: She's hilarious
Wants to live: In a city
Looking for: A permanent family

Vashanti wanted potential families to hear directly from her!

Bright, funny, and caring, Vashanti easily describes herself as “hilarious,” and she is not wrong. With her great sense of humor, it’s no wonder Vashanti loves to joke around and have a good time. She carries her positive attitude and great enthusiasm along with her through everything she does. When playing baseball or swimming (she’s an excellent swimmer), her gusto is on full display. Vashanti generally likes all sports but her true passion is dancing and performing with dance groups. Among the dance styles she’s studied are tap and African dance. She really likes to release energy through movement. When settled into a permanent home, Vashanti looks forward to being able to get in gymnastics or back into dance classes.

Vashanti is an insightful and intelligent teen with so much personality. Full of her own style, she's known by some as "V Dubs." Vashanti has a strong love for music, especially hip-hop. When she's not listening to music, she's likely reading. A voracious reader, Vashanti can finish several books in a row with impressive speed.

It’s important to Vashanti to help others. In school and at home, Vashanti always seeks out opportunities to help, like volunteering to help younger kids with their reading. Vashanti describes herself as a Christian, enjoys going to church, and would like to engage in Bible study at a local church when she has roots in a new home.

School was challenging for so many people during the pandemic. Looking forward to the future, Vashanti's team hopes that she will have a better chance at learning now that she's able to be in-person. Vashanti really values having teachers and mentors to guide and support her, and she often forms strong and positive relationships with the people who fill those roles in her life. Vashanti has a close relationship with her wrestling coach and maintains contact with a former teacher. Vashanti does really like school and will benefit from the support of a permanent family invested in her studies.

In case it’s unclear by now, Vashanti is enthusiastic and super social – she loves spending time with people. When asked what kind of family is ideal for her, Vashanti is quick to say that she is open to "any kind of family" particularly city-based ones. “I’m a city girl,” Vashanti quips. As aforementioned, she is super social and would love to stay connected with her friends, no matter where she goes.

Vashanti’s team believes she will thrive in an adoptive family where the parent(s) are readily and consistently available to give her the time and attention she deserves as she continues to learn about the world around her. The team also adds that Vashanti does very well with confident and consistent father figures and will do her best as the only child in the home, or the youngest of much older siblings. Vashanti has expressed her comfort in being around and working with Black, Indigenous, and other people of color as she feels a natural connection to people who can relate to her identity. Because of this, Vashanti's team is especially interested in hearing from families of color, or families who can commit to surrounding Vashanti with opportunities to explore her culture and identity.

"Vashanti is an incredibly talented kid who loves to express herself through her fashion, music, and spiritual belief."

Vashanti herself has said that she is open to any potential caregiver, but would like a family that would support her continued contact with members of her biological family.

If you can see Vashanti in your family, please reach out to us! We’re excited to find her the adoptive family she deserves.
