Meet Colen

Have you ever been carrying around a bucket of water in your back yard, but water sloshes out and you end up wasting a good cup or two of H20? Well, Colen knows all about this problem, and has even attempted to come up with a good system to prevent water waste. In an effort to create a solution, Colen spent some time building a contraption consisting of old scrap wood, a hose, and a bucket. His goal was to create a water system using these random objects he had laying around the house. Did it work? That’s irrelevant – what matters is that this is one of the many examples we have of Colen being a complete innovator. Needless to say, Colen is incredibly creative. He is continually using his own mind to create something new. Even if it doesn’t work out, Colen will always try, try again.

Always quick to smile or laugh, Colen is a sweet kid with a great sense of humor. With his bright and expressive personality, it’s hard to be around Colen without a smile on your face. Colen is also very inquisitive, as you can tell from the story above. The kind of kid who wants to know just how everything works, Colen’s curiosity takes him to new worlds.

He’s a bug lover – both studying them in the pages of a book and actually going out into the world to explore and learn more about them. He finds these bugs in the yard, out in nature, anywhere he can. Many of his bug pals live in the garden, where Colen spends much of his time. He is a plant enthusiast and likes to track the life of a vegetable from seed to consumption. Colen is very involved in planting a seed, watching it grow, and picking the food when it’s all ready. Colen loves being outdoors, where he can continue to discover the world around him.

One of Colen’s main interests right now is his gigantic fish tank. As he continues to learn about the responsibility of caring for fish, Colen enjoys watching his fish swim around the tank – he could do so for hours.

As he enters the 5th grade, Colen’s small classroom environment continues to work well for him. His favorite subject is science, where he is able to study and learn about the things that most interest him. Biology is exciting to Colen, but he also loves learning about electricity! One-on-one attention is really great for Colen, and he makes great progress in the tougher subjects when he has a good teacher or mentor by his side. Having a strong teacher or mentor to really work with Colen is the best thing for him to continue to do well academically.

Colen would really like to be adopted. He is great at expressing just how he feels and what he wants in his life. Patience and open communication are important for Colen; he likes to be heard and acknowledged by the people around him. Colen is affectionate and loving, and would be delighted to have his warmth reciprocated by his adoptive family. The people who know Colen best describe him as “a really unique kid.”

“Colen is just Colen.”

He’s a kid who beats to his own drum and is much more of an individualist than the kind of kid to follow a crowd. Parent(s) with strong personalities and who are patient, warm, and kindhearted would be a great fit for Colen. The best fit for Colen would be an adoptive family who is very experienced with children and have the capability to raise Colen with the kind of parenting that will help him thrive. Colen’s creative mind and drive to discover everything there is to know about everything is so unique and cool. If you are a family who can help Colen continue to learn and explore, please let us know. Colen would do best in a family as an only child where he gets a lot of one-on-one attention, or where he is the younger sibling of much older children. A family without pets, as Colen is just starting to discover how to care for them, would also be the best fit for him.

Colen is a great kid who is looking for a permanent family to love, support, and guide him throughout his life. If you are interested in learning more about Colen, please let us know. We are excited to find the right adoptive family for this little inventor.
