Pre-Service Classes
As a prospective foster or adoptive family, you are choosing to make an enormous difference in the life of a child. Getting the right training is essential for your successful foster care or adoption journey.
Just getting started?
Learn about required pre-adoption orientations and classes:
King County Families contact Fostering Together or call 866-958-5437.
Washington Families (outside of King County) can find more information on classes and orientation through Washington State DSHS. Washington families must take a mandatory CPR certification course. Schedule for CPR certification
Oregon Families contact Oregon DHS or Boys & Girls Aid.
Idaho Families contact Idaho DHW or Path Idaho.
Alaska Families contact the Alaska Center for Resource Families
Families outside of the Pacific Northwest contact AdoptUSKids to access trainings in other states.

Local post adoption classes and support services are offered by:
- Oregon Post Adoption Resource Center for Oregon families.
- Alaska Center for Resource Families for Alaska families.

Locate therapists primarily in Washington or Oregon who are certified in foster and adoption therapy through these directories:
