Create or update your family profile today!

April 30, 2026

If you’ve been thinking about creating or updating your family profile, now is a great time to do it. Northwest Adoption Exchange offers family profiles to help caseworkers get to know you beyond your home study.

A closer look at your family profile

Your family profile is a secure space where you can share a current reflection of your family. This might include information about training you’ve taken, recent placements, changes in your household, or the support systems you rely on. It is also a place to highlight your strengths, relevant experiences, and what makes your family unique.

How your profile supports the placement process

Caseworkers regularly use Northwest Adoption Exchange to identify families who may be a good fit for youth they support. When your profile is complete and current, it becomes a valuable tool in that search process.

Your profile helps caseworkers:

  • Quickly understand your family’s strengths and experiences
  • See updates that may not appear in your home study
  • Consider you more confidently for placements that align with your level of readiness
  • Make more informed decisions throughout the placement process

When you share your home study and NWAE family profile with a caseworker, they get a more complete and accessible picture of your family in one place.

Creating your account: What to expect

Getting started is simple. Apply to create an account that gives you access to create your family profile.

First, fill out the family account application to have your foster care license or home study verified.

Once confirmed, you will receive a link to complete your family profile.

What makes a strong profile

The most effective profiles are both detailed and relevant. Helpful information to include often covers:

  • Recent trainings or certifications
  • Updates to your household or family structure
  • Parenting experience and strengths
  • Support systems and community connections
  • The types of placements you feel best prepared for

Keeping your profile up to date

Your family profile should grow with you. Regular updates help ensure caseworkers are always seeing the most accurate version of your family.

When you have anything to add or change in the future, make sure to submit a new family profile update form.

Once you’ve submitted the family profile update form, we’ll update your profile on our password-protected site and send you a screenshot, so you know what it looks like. Only registered Washington state caseworkers can view family profiles.
