, JA NASJIA (2/00), DAE MARIO (5/04), and J PARIS (7/07) are darling siblings. The family chosen to adopt them needs to honor their African American heritage and provide opportunities for them to connect with the African American community. The children will be counting on their new folks to allow them to maintain connections with their extended birth family. Ja Nasjia and Dae Mario have resided together with a relative since coming into foster care in July 2007, and J Paris is in a separate foster home. The children have weekly sibling visits.

Ja Nasjia is a sweet girl who is very polite, kind, and fun-loving. She is a cutie with bright brown eyes, a big smile, and brown hair that she likes to wear in stylish braids. Although singing is a favorite pastime, she enjoys lots of extra curricular activities, such as dance, tennis, Boys and Girls Club, homework club, and chess. She recently started competing in chess tournaments. She thrives on an active, fun-filled schedule. Ja Nasjia likes school and is a good student. Although she missed much of first grade and is behind academically, with the help of her caregivers and teachers she is catching up. She’s also being evaluated for an individual academic supports. Ja Nasjia is very closely connected to her large extended biological family, all of whom helped raise her at one point or another. It is her very strong wish that she be able to maintain contact with appropriate relatives after she is adopted.

Dae Mario is an energetic and precocious child. Tall for his age, with long brown hair pulled back in a ponytail, he has a winning smile. Dae Mario loves being active. He also likes singing and dancing, and will do so at the drop of a hat. He has a very high energy level which is best channeled into sports and active games. When his energy isn't appropriately channeled he can become unintentionally destructive. Dae Mario attends Head Start, where he has learned his alphabet and how to count in both English and Spanish. He is very bonded with his older sister and has some trouble being apart from her, especially in unfamiliar settings. Though he does not live with his younger brother, he is clearly bonded with him, too. He loves visiting J Paris. When Dae Mario finds himself in unknown settings away from loved ones, he sometimes panics. Dae Mario needs a home that can provide structure and consistency.

Not quite two, J Paris is adorable. He has a round face, sparkling eyes and a huge grin. Generally a happy, energetic baby, he is quite the ham and enjoys making people laugh. This social tot likes being the center of attention. Developmentally on track, he recently learned how to walk and his vocabulary is developing day by day. Like his older brother, J Paris is very energetic. When his energy isn't reigned in he can forget himself and unintentionally get too rough in his play with other children.

Since the children came into alternative care, their caregivers note improvements in each of them. Ja Nasjia has gained an entire grade in reading and almost as much in math. When the children first came into care Dae Mario was entirely dependent on Ja Nasjia to do everything from buttoning his clothing to carrying him around. Now Ja Nasjia usually leaves the parenting to adult caregivers, but sometimes still has to be reminded to let adults be in charge. The children are exhibiting better manners. With gentle reminders and redirection, Dae Mario aggressiveness has lessened considerably.

The children’s adoptive folks need to be able to meet each child’s needs and build upon each child’s strengths. Ja Nasjia needs parent(s) to be proactive in meeting her educational needs and providing the therapeutic supports during the adoptive transition and perhaps later to grieve the loss of extended birth family and develop new attachments and bonds. Dae Mario and J Paris need active, structured, consistent parent(s) to channel their energy into positive outlets, such as sports and active games.
