MARSHALL (5/99) is a charming nine-year-old with a great smile and lots of energy. He has a bounce in his step and a sparkle in his eyes that are very engaging. A very active boy, he enjoys outdoor activities. He also enjoys watching cartoons and playing Pokemon card games. Enthusiastic and very talkative, Marshall likes being right in the midst of whatever is going on, especially when he gets to be the center of attention.

Marshall, who is thriving with the loving discipline and structure in his current foster home, needs an adoptive family who is able to provide the same nurturing stability for him. There is another important issue that needs to be considered in recruiting for a family. Marshall has a baby sibling born in October 2008 and an older sister (10) – both of whom may become available for adoption. Because of that very real possibility, his worker particularly wants to hear from couples who have the skills, emotional well being, and physical stamina to parent two older, school-age children and a baby who is under a year old.

Marshall has been in his current foster home for two years. He is well-bonded to his foster mother. He is still struggling with the separation from his birth mother so he will need the tender ministrations of his adoptive parent(s) to deal with these residual feeling of grief and loss.

In school Marshall benefits from having academic support for reading, writing, and math. He also benefits from having some behavioral supports to help him stay on track.

Therapeutic supports are in place to help Marshall manage his attention difficulties and sometimes too high energy. Marshall continues to work on making behavioral changes and is learning to talk about his feelings instead of acting them out.

While folks interested in just adopting Marshall are encouraged to make inquiries, his social worker is particularly interested in hearing from couples who are open to adopting Marshall and his two siblings, if and when the siblings become free for adoption. We know that Marshall’s adoptive folks will need to be supportive of educational and therapeutic services for him, and that would be true for his older sister, too, who has similar needs. Little is known, as yet, though, about the baby sibling. Marshall is not yet legally free.
