These attractive brothers, DAVID (1/97) and RICHARD (6/00) are waiting for their adoptive family to claim them. They need parent(s) who have lots of time and attention to nurture and guide them. Outdoorsy, active folks who love animals and who enjoy lots of different learning and play activities would be wonderful. Having two parents could mean that the boys have more opportunities for the one-on-one attention they crave, yet a single mom or dad with a great support system of friends and family could fit the bill nicely, too.

It boosts David’s sense of self worth when he can help out in his foster home, even though he may need some guidance and prompting to complete his tasks. He also enjoys being a big brother. Richard likes to be busy and is always ready for an activity or a family outing. He’s a big fan of computer games, too. While both boys do best in a very structured home environment, this is especially so for David. Lack of structure for him is an invitation to chaos.

Legally free, Richard and David came into foster care in July 2004. The boys will be counting on their adoptive folk(s) to help them maintain contact as they are growing up with their sister (9). Multiple placements in foster care and lack of permanency have likely exacerbated the residual effects of the past trauma the boys’ have experienced.

Richard and David are currently in therapeutic foster care, where they have the structure and consistency which help them feel safe, and caregivers which have the experience to help children talk about their feelings of grief, loss, and abandonment. Richard also is dealing with some residual effects of a recent dog attack which left some physical scarring.

Mental health counseling is also an important part of the boys’ treatment; in addition, David takes medication to help manage his feelings. In addition to helping the boys with issues of past trauma, the foster parents and therapists are helping them learn self calming tools, strengthen their capacity for self control, and develop appropriate ways to express their anger, stress, and frustration.

It is likely that both Richard and David will continue to need such therapeutic support on an as-needed basis for the foreseeable future. It would be an act of commitment and love for their adoptive parent(s) to participate with them in family counseling during the boys’ transition into their new home.

The boys also have some learning delays, and Richard has speech therapy needs, which are being addressed through special education services and an individual education plan for each child.

Richard and David’s worker wants to hear from couples, and those highly capable single moms and dads with strong support systems, who are ready to claim two wonderful boys as their own.
