ANDREW (11/93) is an attractive young teen of Alaskan Native heritage who has some nice strengths for an adoptive family to encourage and to build upon. Andrew is very creative and artistic. He has a variety of hobbies and he is good at all of them. He makes friends easily and is able to build good friendships. A very sociable young man, Andrew is an interesting and engaging teen to hang out with. Some of his favorite outdoor activities are skateboarding and snowboarding. He also loves to listen to music.

Although Andrew has not lived with his birth family since he was a very young child, he and his birth mother and birth brother have re-connected through therapy. While this is likely a positive thing, Andrew is cautious and taking his time to see what kind of relationships, if any, might be formed.

Andrew has had many disruptions in his life that have been very rough on him, yet he clearly wants to have a permanent family – a trustworthy family who will not give up on him. He would really like to have a mom, a brother, and a dad, but a dad is especially important to him. He hopes his new dad will spend a lot of one-on-one time with him doing active outdoor pursuits.

In addition to his other strengths and abilities, Andrew is bright and his intelligence may even be a bit above average. He does, though, have behavioral special needs that challenge him and those who parent and teach him. Andrew is very receptive to the various services offered to address these special needs.

Andrew needs to have adoptive parent(s) who truly enjoy teenagers and understand the process of adolescent development. It will be essential, too, for his adoptive folk(s) to have a good grasp of the range of behavioral issues related to fetal alcohol and drug exposure. Their willingness to participate with Andrew in family counseling during his transition into their home would be a wonderful way to show their commitment to him and their desire to have him as a member of their family.
