ELEUTERIO (4/96), who likes to be called Terry, is an easy going preteen of Latino heritage with a great sense of humor. He worker and foster parents tell us that he’s a wonderful boy who is charming, resilient and loads of fun. He’s nice looking, too, with expressive light brown eyes and light brown hair. He loves being outdoors, and some of his favorite activities are camping, playing sports, and studying marine animals.

Since coming into foster care in November 2005, Terry has made some remarkable developmental gains which have contributed significantly to his self-esteem and confidence. While not yet legally free, there is a consent to search.

Terry is medically healthy and does not have any physical limitations. He is, though, being treated for symptoms of autism, and receives Developmental Disability Services (DDS) due to cognitive delays. Despite these issues, Terry needs only the usual level of age-appropriate guidance and supervision. He takes care of his self-care needs independently and he is respectful towards others and their belongings.

Terry attends school fulltime. Now in fifth grade, he has academic supports in the classroom that include small group and one-on-one learning throughout the day. He is doing well in that setting.

Currently, Terry is reengaging in counseling to help prepare him for adoption. He is really looking forward to having a family of his own. Terry has transitioned successfully into two different foster placements. And in each foster family, he has made important gains in his growth and developmental as a healthy individual.

Having a loving, energetic family that gives him the structure and routine that helps him to feel secure will meet his needs best. It will be helpful for his adoptive folk(s) to have a good grasp of the needs of a child with mild developmental delays, attention needs, and high energy, as well as symptoms of autism. They also will need to see that Terry has the educational, vocational, and developmental resources that will allow him to reach the full level of independence he is capable of achieving as an adult. Terry has the ability to develop healthy relationships with children of all ages, but he may be a better fit in a family who has only older children. The family chosen to adopt Terry will be rewarded many times over. He is a delight.
