Eyo is described as a sweet boy who loves to smile and laugh. He has a healthy appetite, especially for hot pockets, vegetables and fruit. Favorite pastimes are playing with toy cars and riding his bicycle. He also enjoys going to church every Sunday and sits through the service with his foster mom. After a bit of initial shyness, Eyo’s personality shines through. He is often very social and interested in what others are doing. Eyo has some gross motor delays and difficulty expressing himself, which are being addressed in weekly therapy. While Eyo is not at all aggressive, he has some behaviors that can be challenging. He does, though, respond well to discipline that involves logical consequences. Al-Asia is a very friendly little girl whose favorite person is her foster mom. Her foster mom makes sure that Al-Asia has the level of structure and routine in her daily life that helps her to feel safe and secure. Variations and changes in routine can be very stressful and upsetting to her. Although Al-Asia enjoys being around children, she has not yet learned that sharing and taking turns are important parts of playing well with others. Having an adult nearby helps to keep her on track. Al-Asia has made nice progress in becoming more aware of healthy boundaries, especially around strangers. Currently, Al-Asia and A’Lonah are both participating in Early Intervention twice a week to address developmental needs. Al-Asia has services to address delays in her social, emotional and adaptive areas, while A’Lonah has services for communication, social, emotional, adaptive, and cognitive delays. Eyo, Al-Asia and A’Lonah need a committed family that is able to give them unconditional love while providing a nurturing, stable, secure home with safe boundaries. Of course, their adoptive folk(s) will need to be strong advocates for educational, developmental, and counseling services throughout the children’s childhoods and perhaps beyond. It would also be a strong plus for the adoptive parent(s) to be supportive of the children having contact as they are growing up with their older siblings. |
