These energetic brothers, BRANDON (2/98) and BRIAN (2/99), are eagerly awaiting an adoptive home. Meanwhile, they love being outside, climbing monkey bars and apple trees. On a walk through the field, Brian will happily follow a butterfly while Brandon examines blades of grass on the trail, imagining who passed by before. Life with these brothers will have its challenges but will also be full and rich for their family.

Brandon is cute and has a sweet disposition. Quiet and intelligent he is well behaved and hard working at school, where he does well academically. His reading skills are very high and he has good math skills. He likes to talk at home about the things he does at school. Brandon appears to be talented artistically, and likes to draw and do all kinds of artwork. He also excels at doing puzzles and masters 100-piece puzzles easily. Some of his favorite things are pirates, superheroes, animals and living in the country. Brandon does seem struggle with some sadness at time but being adopted by a good family will help immeasurably.

Brian is cute and sweet with a quirky sense of humor. He has a lot of charisma despite developmental issues. At school Brian is in the Resource Room part of the day and in a regular first-grade classroom for the rest of the time. He likes school and is making progress in both learning environments. Brian has a nice sense of curiosity. He is interested in books, puzzles, maps, bird feathers and animals. While Brian may have some long-term cognitive delays that may require extra help in learning, he is very endearing and will make the work on his behalf worthwhile.

Legally free, the boys came into foster care most recently in February 2004. Two younger brothers have already been adopted together in Oregon. Some ongoing contact between the siblings will like be in the best interests of all of the boys.

Since coming into care this last time, Brandon has had the chance to stabilize and to make good progress behaviorally. He does, though, still have his moments. Tantrums and pouting can result when he feels slighted or if he thinks someone else is being treated with preference. And he has not yet learned to accept consequences gracefully. Brandon is very kind to small children but any one above the age of six is fair game if he gets mad. Brandon has had no behavioral problems in school. Medication helps with attention difficulties and anxiety.

Brian has had many medical issues that continue to be monitored through child development clinics, a psychiatrist, pediatrician, neurologist, and throat specialist. The doctors have not settled on any specific diagnoses, but note that his development delays could be do to some residual effects of his exposure to alcohol prenatally. At home Brian is working on personal hygiene and other basic skills, and he takes medication daily to help him to concentrate and to sleep.

Brandon and Brian are ready for a family to call their own. The ideal would be a family where the boys are the only kids or the oldest of one or two siblings. The family’s daily routines should be consistent, with patient parent(s) who are able to take the time to pre-teach about changes. Brian’s family will need to be comfortable working with educational and medical folks, and Brandon will benefit from the adoptive parent(s) taking pride in his academic successes and being helpful with his emotional needs.
