It is very important to DANIELA (12/93) to have a bilingual (Spanish/English) adoptive family. She wants to be in a home where speaking Spanish, watching Mexican TV programs, listening to Mexican music, and celebrating Mexican holidays are a routine part of family life. Daniela has developed strong bonds with her current single foster mom, where she has made good progress. She is currently benefiting greatly from being in a stable, nurturing placement with safe, caring adults.

For the 2007-2008 school year, Daniela is in a mainstream eighth grade classroom. Last year, she improved her class participation and brought her grades up. Having attentive oversight and encouragement from caregivers helps her to get her homework done and turned in on time.

Daniela was born in Mexico and lived there with her maternal grandparents almost full time until she was nine-years old. At that time her mother brought her to the United States to join her and her new partner. That relationship was unsuccessful, and Daniela came into foster care in April 2004. Daniela is currently settling into a new foster placement.

Daniela has an ongoing relationship with her siblings, especially her brother, Israel. She will be counting on her adoptive folk(s) to help her maintain contact with them. She may also benefit from having some periodic contact with her birth mother.

Daniela’s therapist continues to work with her on choosing positive friends, making good choices for herself, and strengthening her personal boundaries. Her therapist is also working with her on increasing her social skill, enhancing her self esteem, and dealing with losses and setbacks.

Daniela will benefit from having a family that has a lot of time and attention to parent and guide her as she enters her teenage years. She enjoys going to church, and currently attends a Catholic church.
