Child's name: "Danny" Louis Number: C6728 Birthdate: 1/94 State: Washington Listed: July 2007 If
you have completed an adoption homestudy
and would like to have your information forwarded to this child's worker, contact us. Danny has a friendly personality, good general communication skills, and a desire to fit in. While he gets along pretty well with other kids, he’s a bit of a diamond in the rough waiting for caring parent(s) to help him realize his potential. It will be particularly important for his parent(s) to help him curb his tendency to be intrusive, understand the need that people have for personal space, and learn to recognize cues from others that tell him his joking around or teasing have gone too far and he needs to back off. Counseling support is helping Danny to talk about his feelings and to learn ways to manage his attention difficulties and high energy. Medication therapy has been helpful in the past in lessening those symptoms. During the 2007-2008 school year, Danny will be in a regular seventh grade program. He enjoys reading and math. Danny will benefit by having folks on the home front who encourage and assist him in getting his homework done, and who can work closely with his teacher to see that he actually gets it turned in. Having a reward system of some kind may be the answer. Danny came into care with his sister and brother in April 1998. The multiple placements he has had in foster care have exacerbated his feelings of trauma, loss, and abandonment. His difficulty believing that adults will truly be there for him, causes him to struggle with trusting adults and forming attachments. Although the three children are still living in the same home, Danny’s sister has been adopted by the foster parents who are not able to adopt the boys. The foster parents will do their part in helping the children continue to have contact with one another after the boys are in their adoptive homes. While Danny and his brother could be placed together if the right family comes forward, their worker is doing individual recruitment, which she believes may better meet each boy’s individual needs. The worker will be looking for families who will honor the boys’ sibling bonds and help them to maintain regular contact with one another as they are growing up. And it will be essential, too, that the families take pride in the boys’ Hispanic heritage and provide opportunities for them to feel connected to the Hispanic community. Ideally, Danny’s worker would like to find a two-parent family with a strong male figure for him, yet she does not want to miss out on hearing from those remarkable single dads and moms who have strong support systems and the skills to parent a young teenage boy.
