Legally free, Matthew (1/00) is an attractive youngster, whose playful, friendly, sweet, affectionate side can really light up the world. His foster parents report that when Matthew is happy the world is happy. He is youngster who loves to play with semi trucks and digging in dirt. Camping with his foster family is a favorite activity, and he is enthralled with motorcycles. Listening to music and singing are favorite pastimes, too. He also enjoys coloring, drawing and simply spending time in solitary play, unless of course he can spend time with his idol, his 17 years-old foster brother.

Matthew has been in his current foster home since 2004, but has been within the same extended family since coming into care in 2001. Matthew’s foster family truly adores him and will assist in an adoptive transition and would very much like to remain in his life after placement.

Matthew has global developmental disabilities and qualifies for developmental disability services. Matthew’s cognitive, social, and emotional developmental are significantly delayed, as are his receptive and expressive language abilities. He has made some good gains in his gross and fine motor abilities, yet still has a long way to go, as his balance and coordination are poor. Matthew continues to be evaluated in an effort to identify causes or syndromes that might explain the multiple behavioral abnormalities that so severely exacerbate his developmental disabilities. So far, nothing conclusive has been found. What is known is that Matthew pretty much requires wrap-around services in his daily life.

Matthew’s social worker is especially interested in hearing from two-parent families or a remarkably, skilled, single parent who has a strong support system of family, friends, and community resources. Whatever the family configuration, Matthew is going to need a dedicated parent with the stamina and emotional strength to be not only the primary parent, but also a strong advocate with the skills and abilities to work hand-in-hand with treatment professional and teachers. His worker is even willing to look at a home schooling family that is able to provide Matthew with a structured predicable environment.
