BERNARDINO (6/95), or Dino as he is fondly called, is a budding teen with many strengths. He is kindhearted with a great sense of humor. He gets along well with kids of all ages. He is respectful and polite to adults and responsive to requests and dictates from parental figures, teachers, and other significant adults. He enjoys family interactions and being helpful. Praise and spending one-on-one time with him are great ways to connect with him and motivate him. His worker says he is an attractive, terrific kid with a warm, friendly disposition. He is a good swimmer who loves the water. He also enjoys bike riding and playing basketball, football, and soccer. Of course, playing video games and watching movies and reading are some of his favorite pastimes. Dino’s love for animals can be seen in his playful, affectionate interactions with family pets. Dino not only likes going to church, he also has fun participating in his church’s youth group activities. Dino’s interests, behaviors, and desire to be accepted are age-appropriate. Although Dino is becoming more self-confident, at this time he tends to be a follower not a leader, so he benefits greatly from hanging out with other kids who are socially and emotionally healthy. Legally free, Dino came into foster care in early 2005.

Recently, Dino has participated in counseling to help prepare him for the transition into an adoptive family. At this time, there are no indications that he needs further mental health support. Dino is attached to his foster family in a healthy manner and maintains strong ties to his birth siblings. He will be counting on his adoptive folks to honor the significant relationships he has with his siblings and other birth family members.

Now in seventh grade, he benefits from having academic supports. Having adoptive folk(s) who are strong educational advocates will be important in his doing well. Dino enjoys good physical health, although he may benefit from some follow-up to help him increase his coordination, especially given his interest in sports.

Dino is eager to meet his adoptive parent(s) and to move forward with his life. While he has said that he would like a traditional family, he would do well with a single mom or a single dad. It will be important, though, that his family to be involved in sports, outdoor activities, and church. Of course, he needs to have adoptive parent(s) who will take pride in his heritage and provide opportunities for him to feel connected to his Mexican roots.
