Child's name: StephenNumber: C6677 Birthdate: 6/98 State: Washington Listed: June 2007, Updated 1/08 If

and would like to have your information forwarded to this child's worker, contact us. Stephen blossomed in school this past year, where he made huge improvements academically and socially and was participating in a Highly Capable class. His reading skills are now at a fifth grade level. Now in the fourth grade, he continues to be in a Hi-Cap (higher learning) class and is doing well academically. He has some extra supports to help him improve his speech and language skills. His reading abilities are advanced. Stephen has six siblings with whom he would like to have contact as he is growing up. His current placement is a therapeutic foster home, where he has a personal safety plan and receives regular individual, family, and group counseling. In addition to helping him with issues of grief and loss, his therapist is working with him on developing tools to help him manage his anger in healthy ways, increasing his ability to curb his impulsiveness, accepting personal responsibility for his choices and behaviors, and strengthening his personal boundaries. Stephen takes medication management to help him manage symptoms of attention difficulties, high energy, and past trauma. It will be important for Stephen to have adoptive parents who have a good grasp of how chronic early neglect amidst parental substance abuse can impact a child’s sense of well being and safety and his emotional and behavioral development. Stephen would likely do best as an only child in his adoptive family. Being will to participate with Stephen is family counseling during the transition into his adoptive home could be a wonderful way for his new folk(s) to show their love and commitment to him. |
