Child's name: JenniferNumber: C6595 Birthdate: 10/94 State: Washington Listed: April 2007, Updated 1/08 This young teenager longs to be adopted and to have a family of her own. While she could certainly benefit from being an only child where she could be the center of parental attention and family activities, being the youngest of an older teenage sister or two who have good emotional and social behavior could give Jennifer a big boost forward. Legally free, Jennifer came into foster care most recently in 2005. An evaluation done soon after coming into care described Jennifer as, “a bright and inventive child who…is using her intellectual and emotional abilities to gain the attention she craves. Her constant need for nurturance from adults keeps her so busy and absorbed that she has no time for developmentally appropriate activities, such as making friends with her peers or developing creative interests.” She has made important gains over the past two plus years in beginning to rebuild her life and to deal with the residual effects of past trauma. The GOOD NEWS is that Jennifer is doing very well in her therapeutic foster home. Her foster parents are providing the structure that helps her feel secure and are continuing to assist her with talking about her feelings, strengthening her boundaries, and learning good safety skills. Medication therapy is also a component of Jennifer’s treatment to help lessen her feeling of sadness and of being overwhelmed. Jennifer needs an adoptive family that will not give up on her. Being willing to participate with her in family counseling during the transition into her adoptive home could be a wonderful way for her adoptive folk(s) to let her know that they care about her and are committed to her succeeding in their family. The family also needs to be highly supportive of having counseling resources readily available to her on an as needed basis. While that could be an important part of Jennifer’s support system, it is the family connection that will be the key to Jennifer truly being able to move forward in her life in successful ways. |
