Child's name: IsaiahNumber: C6571 Birthdate: 5/98 State: Idaho Listed: March 2007 If you have completed an adoption homestudy and would like to have your information forwarded to this child's worker, contact us. ISAIAH (5/98) is a charmer! Energetic, friendly and talkative, this handsome boy can win your heart without half trying. While he can work up enthusiasm for just about anything, Isaiah’s favorite outdoor activities are swimming and bicycling. Indoors he enjoys playing with Legos and Game Cube and emulating Spiderman – who is Isaiah’s absolute favorite superhero. Isaiah says he would like to have a family that has animals. In a previous foster family there were older children as well as dogs, and his foster parents said he did OK with both. If you are hoping to get someone to help you around the house, Isaiah is your man! He loves to help with chores, inside and out. Gardening or helping in the kitchen – it matters little what it is. He is up for it. And he doesn’t complain as so many kids do when doing chores. Isaiah has suffered many rejections in his young life and is very fearful of putting himself in the way of another one. While he can be outgoing, friendly and engaging to the more casual observer, those who are the closest to him say that Isaiah holds much of himself back. Anxiety over the fear of abandonment is strong in this boy. Any family who is considering adopting Isaiah should understand how previous losses and pure self-preservation can shape a child’s ability to make strong attachments. Isaiah is currently participating in a residential treatment program to help him deal with a recent loss and to help further prepare him for a permanent family. In Isaiah’s world, stimuli can get overwhelming at times. When it does, he needs adults close by to help him get back on track. For example, he does his best with a set routine, one task at a time, clear instructions, and frequent reminders. Getting his full attention before giving instructions also helps him succeed. Transitions are difficult for him, too, and he needs to be well prepared for ahead of time. Past testing indicated that some of Isaiah’s abilities were at pre-kindergarten level, and he has special academic supports at school. . To get a current reading on his abilities and his needs, his worker is having him retested. We know that his early turbulent history and his anxiety over what will happen to him next are both factors that are likely impacting his ability to perform, but there may be other issues, too. It may be ideal for Isaiah to be placed with a two parent family, but his worker also wants to hear from skilled single parents with good supports. A setting that gives him plenty of room to run and work off his energy is high desirable. Isaiah would do best as the youngest child in the family as he requires a fair bit of parental energy and is not yet secure enough to easily share attention with same age or younger children. Most of all, though, Isaiah needs a family who will enjoy his wonderful exuberance and his desire to please and to experience life. He should flourish with parents who have raised children with needs similar to his; who like enthusiastic little boys; who are matter-of-fact in their child raising methods (do the crime, do the time); and who can get their parenting rewards in smaller increments. Isaiah enjoys being in a family who has a strong belief or faith system. |
