Legally free, RUTHANNE (4/95) is an affectionate child who is sweet, charming and personable, especially when she feels accepted by the significant adults in her life and has the behavioral supports at home and at school that help her feel secure. Caring adults can bring out RuthAnne’s desire to be helpful, too, by encouraging her and giving her other positive attention. RuthAnne enjoys playing basketball, swimming, and being with her friends. Because she can tends to follow peers, it’ll be important for her to have a strong parental relationship with attentive guidance and supervision, and clear, simple rules, expectations, and limits.

RuthAnne came into foster care originally when she was five. Her long-term foster adopt placement disrupted in September 2006 after six years. RuthAnne is now back in foster care with a therapeutic foster family and mental health treatment services.

Given all of the changes and losses that have occurred, it is not surprising that RuthAnne is floundering and trying to find acceptance anywhere she can. A strong attachment exists between her and her sister and RuthAnne will be counting on her adoptive folk(s) to help her continue to maintain contact.

RuthAnne needs to have parent(s) who have a good grasp of the needs of children who have behavioral and permanent learning needs. RuthAnne’s adoptive folks also need to be able to help her to strengthen her personal safety skills and boundaries. It could be very helpful for RuthAnne to have an emotionally and psychologically healthy dad, older brother, uncle, or granddad who understands her special needs.

In school, RuthAnne benefits from having behavioral and academic supports in a small classroom program. During the 2007-2008 school year, she will be in a seventh grade program. Having simple, concrete one-step or two-step directions and visual cues help RuthAnne to learn.

RuthAnne will be a very rewarding child to parent for patient, calm, nurturing folk(s) who understand the effect of past trauma, and who have the skills to parent and teach a child with behavioral and learning needs. In the right family, RuthAnne will be able to blossom and realize her full potential. RuthAnne may be eligible for SSI.
