This is NYCKOLAS (11/94) who is legally free for adoption and wants to tell you a bit about himself.

"My name is Nick, and I'm 11 years old. When I grow up I want to be a ranger who takes care of the forest and animals in the forest. I enjoy camping, fishing and anything outside. I would like a family that has a mom and a dad and where I can spend time with them outside. I would like to have brothers and sisters, and I am used to being the oldest in the family."

Nyckolas is a quiet child who likes to take his time thinking things over. His foster mother describes him as "a generally happy boy" who needs to be allowed extra time to process situations. While Nyckolas is used to being the oldest child in a family, his adoption team feels that a family with older children would be a great option for him, as would parents who want to focus on him as the only child.

Due to the losses and trauma that Nyckolas has experienced, he needs parent(s) who are knowledgeable about the effects of abuse and neglect and will respond reasonably to his need. He's likely to be more successful with parents who tap into community resources, including medication management, psychosocial rehabilitation and counseling. His adoptive parent(s) must be patient while he leans new social skills and ways of dealing with frustration. Nyckolas also receives support though an educational program that assists him in dealing with behavioral and learning challenges.

A parent who provides strong boundaries and clear rules will reap the benefits of having this young man in their home. Your fun family times spent in the great outdoors may even turn into a full-time career for this aspiring forest ranger.
