Child's name: DanielNumber: C6440 Birthdate: 2/96 State: Washington Listed: October 2006, Updated 2/08 Photographs by Yuen Lui Legally free, DANIEL (2/96) loves animals and family pets. There are animals in his current foster home, which is a real plus for him. Daniel loves the outdoors, especially when he can be involved in very active, physical types of games and play. Large motor activities are very satisfying ways for him to expend his high energy. Daniel’s emotional and behavioral issues have been exacerbated by his multiple placements in foster care, and he may also have been exposed to alcohol and drugs prenatally. While counseling is an important component of Daniel’s intervention program, medication therapy is even more significant. One of the biggest challenges is getting the right medications in the right dosages that help lessen his symptoms and have few side effects. While Daniel does have some neurological issues, his intelligence is normal. In school, he benefits from the extra supports and structure of a therapeutic learning center for his behavioral needs and learning difficulties. Daniel needs adoptive folk(s) – a single dad could be just great! – who are willing to learn about his multiple special needs and how best to help him meet the challenges of his symptoms. It will take adults who have the energy and desire to invest time and themselves into providing the high level of structure that Daniel responds to, and to parent in very consistent, very firm ways. His adoptive folk(s) will need to learn about his early years and the many losses he has sustained. And they need to be strong advocates for the medication component of his treatment program, as well as being willing to participate with him in mental health counseling as requested.
