Child's name: KailubNumber: C6422 Birthdate: 5/99 State: Oregon Listed: 9/06, Updated 2/08 If

and would like to have your information forwarded to this child's worker, contact us. According to a recent psychological exam, Kailub exhibits some typical behavior’s of children who have Asperger's syndrome. He has difficulty with peer issues (but is never physically aggressive), cogntiive processing and sensory integration. He doesn’t like to takes bathes and is a notoriously fast shower-taker; maybe a little too fast, according to his foster parents. Kailub can also become fixated on things, spending hours on activities most people would find mundane. Currently, his treatment program is also helping him manage symptoms associated with attention difficulities. Kailub sees a counselor one time per week. His work in counseling focuses on social skills and preparing for adoption. He works with a skills trainer one time per week as well, also focusing on peer interactions. Kailub also participates in a counseling group for autistic children at his school. The group focuses on social skill development. The addition of Concerta has been very helpful for Kailub. He is much calmer and there is more self awareness in his interactions with other. Kailub enjoys going to counseling and is receptive to the adults who are working with him. Kailub’s worker and treatment folks are excited to know more about how he experiences the world and are looking forward to providing him the supports necessary to succeed. Specific interventions were recommended to assist Kailub to be successful at home and in school and will, of course, be shared with his adoptive parent(s). Now in third grade, Kailub is slightly above average academically. He is excellent at math and numbers and loves strategy games like checkers. He does have some difficulties with reading comprehension. Kailub will do best in a family with lots of patience, structure and love, who will accept his special needs. A family knowledgable about high-functioning autistic children is desirable. Kailub needs parent(s) who are willing to take the time to work with him and advocate for him. Kailub will enjoy an active family that enjoys playing games and going places with. He will need creative interventions for his behaviors, especially in the area of pro-social communication skills. Kailub's humor, pleasant disposition and charm would be a great addition to any family willing to give him the love and attention he desires so much. |
