Child's name: TylerNumber: C6228 Birthdate: 9/94 State: Idaho Listed: 3/06, Update 2/07 If you have completed an adoption homestudy and would like to have your information forwarded to this child's worker, contact us. Legally free, TYLER (9/94) is a bright, energetic preteen who excels in most academic areas when he is in the right classroom setting. Tyler enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities. He loves riding horses and is an excellent rider. He enjoys sports and physical play and work, too, which are good ways to direct his high energy. Tyler also enjoys building things and creating structures with Legos. Of course, computer games are favorite indoor pastimes. Overall, Tyler seems to enjoy interacting and associating with peers and other kids. He does, though, need coaching, redirection, and supervision to help develop appropriate social skills and healthy personal boundaries and to help him stay on track. Currently, Tyler is in a residential therapeutic group home where childcare personnel are readily available to supervise, coach, and redirect him in his daily activities. He benefits, too, from being prepared ahead of time for transitions from one activity to another (especially when he's being asked to set aside an activity that he's really into) and/or for changes in his daily routine. His mental health therapy at his group home is focused on helping him to develop better internal controls, talk about his feelings, and prepare him to return to a family setting. With the structure, behavioral management tools, and accessibility of experienced childcare staff, Tyler is making progress in his increasing his social skills. He is interacting much better with adults and peers these days. His threshold for frustration and stress, though, are still low and his impulsiveness can be challenging at times. Tyler needs parents who are not intimidated by the numerous challenges he faces and who understand coping behavior in one who has survived significant childhood trauma and devastating losses. For a dedicated couple or single parent who will hang in there with him over the tough spots and who will be a strong advocate for the different community resources, the satisfaction of watching Tyler succeed should be exceptionally rewarding. A good place for Tyler may be on a family farm where he could ride horses and participate in lots of outdoor activities and physical chores. While Tyler might enjoy being an only child, his worker believes that he could do well and benefit greatly having an older sibling or two willing to mentor him and take him under their wings. Subsidy and Purchase of Service may be available. |
