Legally free, KYLE (9/93) enjoys swimming, riding his bike, building with Legos, playing computer games, and writing and reading. Kyle has a pleasing demeanor. His smile is big and he expresses emotional warmth. He likes to please others and enjoys positive adult attention. Kyle has a creative imagination.

Kyle has long-term counseling needs to help him develop trust and be able to form lasting relationships. A program of wrap around services with day supervision by an aide is currently in place to help provide the positive behavioral reinforcement he needs throughout the day. Some of his issues are related to his difficulty being attentive and focusing. He is in the fifth grade in an applied behavioral analysis program, which has a small classroom setting and a high teacher to student ratio. The classroom has the high-level of behavioral support that he needs, as well as good academic support.

Kyle has been in his foster home for several months and has an excellent treatment team. While he has made marked improvement in many areas, he still requires prompting, redirection, and pre-teaching. His delayed social skills and his lack of knowledge and understanding of personal boundaries continue to be of concern. He struggles with differentiating between what are appropriate behaviors across differing relationships – this includes verbal disclosure and physical proximity. His tendency to socially isolate himself and to withdraw from activities underscore his need for a high level of support and social skill building. He needs to learn not only how to make friends, but also how to keep them.

Kyle's social worker is looking for a skilled couple or a single dad who have experience with at-risk youth and the challenging behaviors they have. Kyle needs a strong male presents. While Kyle needs to be the youngest child in the family, having siblings two or three years or more older could be a real plus in helping him develop good boundaries and social skills. His adoptive parent(s) should have a good grasp of how early neglect and abuse and lack of safe boundaries can impact on a child's sense of self worth, ability to form attachments, and his overall development. His adoptive parent(s) also need to be willing to use therapeutic and social resources in the community to help Kyle continue to grow and make gains. Such therapeutic services should also be able to give Kyle's adoptive parents support, as well as introducing them to new behavioral tools to help them parent.

While parenting Kyle is not for the faint of heart, there is indeed a boy inside wanting to become the best that he can be, and you may have the skills and the resources to help him do it.

Subsidy and Purchase of Service may be available.
