BRANDON (9/90) Brandon is a handsome young guy who is fast becoming an accomplished carpenter and furniture craftsman. He is crafting and creating chairs, tables, entertainment centers, and various other objects. Clearly, woodworking is a passion for him, and it is one that he may just be able to embrace as a career.

Brandon is willing to reflect upon the time he has spent outside of a permanent family. He is eager to belong and will say, “I am ready to be a part of a family.” Brandon would do best with adoptive folk(s) who understand trust and attachment issues and are willing and able to give him the time and space he needs to trust them. It will be important for Brandon’s adoptive family to let him know from the get-go that they are committed to him and that he is a permanent member of the family.

In the last few years Brandon has been moved around quite a bit, so it is with great relief that to him that he has been placed in a residential group home where he will be able to stay until a permanent family comes forward for him. Being there allows him to experience stability in his living and school environments. No small thing for a fellow who has been in foster care way too long. Slender and physically healthy, Brandon wears glasses and stands about 5 feet 6 inches tall with brown hair and eyes.

Like most of us, Brandon likes to win and shine in activities. He enjoys the visibility and attention that being good at an activity brings him. Also, he likes to share his level of experience and knowledge and engage other people in his interests. Brandon has some great skateboarding skills, strong interests in science and astronomy, and enjoys video games. When spending time with him, you might notice him quickly jumping off the side of a rock or handrail and taking a new path to your destination. He talks quickly and you have to listen closely to hear him share lots of interesting ideas and new perspectives regarding the topic at hand. Also, Brandon is very interested in mountain biking and enjoys having the chance to ride.

On-target developmentally, Brandon is now in 11th grade. He’s expected to do well. While academically, he is a good reader, he can struggle with written assignments and maintaining attention. Verbally, Brandon has great conversational skills that show his vocabulary and interest in certain subjects.

Sometimes, relationships with his peers are challenging because Brandon struggles to know how to best express anger or hurt feelings. He is learning to acknowledge his responsibility in different situations and outcomes. Therapy is helping him to work through his feelings of grief and loss, as well as to overcome his difficulty trusting and forming attachments.

Brandon says he would like to have a dad and mom home. He really likes cats and golden retrievers. His adoptive folk(s) need to be experienced and must be willing to work with his therapist to understand Brandon’s issues and be able to develop effective parenting responses. Brandon’s family is sure to enjoy his conversation and will be challenged to keep up with his many new ideas!
